Culinary Capers Catering Venue Spotlight | VanDusen Botanical Garden

First opened in October 2011, VanDusen’s award-winning Visitor Centre is on track to being designated a ‘Living Building’ – one of only ten in the world. To be designated a ‘Living Building’ the construction has to exceed LEED Platinum standard and fulfill criteria set out by the Cascadia Living Building Challenge.

Just like a plant, the Visitor Centre generates its own heat, power and water – ‘living’ off the power grid. Its walls are constructed of packed earth (the same technique used to construct the Great Wall of China) and all the wood in the building is either recycled from a demolished structure on site, or is salvaged beetle-kill.

The architecturally stunning Living Building with its views of Livingstone Lake and the Woodland Garden presents a unique location for business meetings, conferences, seminars, memorials, wedding receptions, banquets, parties, or special office functions.

The BMO Great Hall has two movable walls which allows the space to be divided into three smaller rooms or left as one large room depending on the needs of the client. In its one room configuration, the BMO Great Hall can accommodate up to 120 for sit-down dinner and 150 – 175 people for a reception style function.
