Easy To Make Halloween Sweet Treats with Culinary Capers

Culinary Capers Catering’s  Pastry Chef Kim Collishaw created these hauntingly easy dessert treats for you and the kids to make for your Halloween get-together!   Boo-licious!

Spider Brownie Bites

What you will need:
* Brownie mix (homemade or prepared mix)
* Dark chocolate (melted with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to set)
* Salted pretzels
* Smarties or red candy of your choice
* Chocolate sprinkles
* Small ice cream scoop

Prepare your favourite brownie recipe, bake and cool.
With a small ice cream scoop – scoop out brownie. Place on a parchment or wax paper lined cookie sheet.
Take pretzel and create spider legs to stick into brownie.
Dip the entire brownie with pretzel legs into dark melted chocolate
While chocolate is still wet add candy eyes.
Finish with chocolate sprinkles.

Crazy Eyeball Cake Pops

What you will need:
* Chocolate or vanilla cake mix (or any flavour you like!)
* Your choice of frosting – chocolate, vanilla, cream cheese
* White chocolate (melted with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to set)
* Chocolate M&Ms or Smarties
* Red food colouring
* Lollipop sticks (purchase from Michaels Arts & Crafts)
* Small paint brush for food colouring detail (purchased from Michaels Arts & Crafts)

Prepare your favourite cake mix or home-made cake recipe, bake and let cool.
Place cake in a stand mixer and break down.  Add frosting and mix until blended.
With clean hands take the mixture and make small round balls.
Insert lollipop stick into ball (half way through).
Place cake balls on a parchment or wax paper lined cookie sheet and refrigerate until set (minimum 30 minutes).
When balls are set dip in melted white chocolate.
Place M&M or Smartie for the eyes.
With the red food colouring paint blood shot detailing.

Scary Chocolate Chip Cookie Teeth

What you will need:
* Chocolate chip cookies* (chewier style of cookie works best for this recipe)
* Vanilla frosting
* Miniature marshmallows
* Red food colouring
* Small paint brush for food colouring detail (purchased from Michaels Arts & Crafts)

Prepare your favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe, bake and let cool.
Prepare or purchase vanilla frosting and mix in red food colouring.
Cut cookies in half.  Invert them upside down (flat side) and pipe or spread red frosting on each cookie half.
Take miniature marshmallows and press into frosting to create a teeth-like effect.
Fill in additional icing behind the marshmallow “teeth” if necessary.
Repeat on second cookie half.
Put two halves together. Use additional frosting for stability.
Decorate with red food colouring to add blood-like stains.

*A soft peanut butter or oatmeal cookies also work.

Ghost Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

What you will need:
* Fresh strawberries
* White chocolate (melted with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to set)*
* Miniature chocolate chips

Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment or wax paper.
Dip strawberry in white chocolate.
Take out and don’t shake chocolate off. “Pull” strawberry along cookie sheet to create a ghost “tail”.
Use miniature chocolate chips for eyes and mouth.

*Chef tip: white chocolate burns quickly so watch it closely whether melting on a double boiler or microwave.
