Vancouver Venue Spotlight – Vancouver Art Gallery and CBC Studios

As you can imagine, Culinary Capers has the opportunity to cater events at many interesting spaces throughout the lower mainland.   From time to time, we will be sure to share unique area venues with you.

The Vancouver Art Gallery’s new Rooftop Pavilion with its city centre views is a great spot for a casual stand-up reception party.   The outdoor deck’s tented walls can be opened up on a warm Vancouver evening.  For our tourism bureau client, we created casual white lounge seating with lots of high top tables and simple spring floral touches.

The passed west coast inspired hors d’oeuvre menu included: honey and juniper berry glazed wild sockeye salmon on cedar paper; seared scallops stuffed with cherry tomatoes, crisp pancetta, radish sprouts and chipotle mayonnaise; toasted brioche spoons topped with barbecued duck and kumquats; white truffle pancakes with grilled NY steak, Parmesan fondant and radicchio salad;  BC spot prawns with fresh herbs, lemon and tarragon aïoli served on a ceramic spoon.
The CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre is another venue that has a surprising number of areas to choose from – an outdoor plaza, an atrium and studio gallery locations.  We love the open, urban lines of the technical production-like spaces and, depending on your event requirements, the space can be transformed the needs of your event.

Culinary Capers Royal Columbian Shine Gala

Royal Columbia Hospital Foundation recently did their successful 2011 SHINE Gala.  400 guests enjoyed a stand-up affair that featured action food stations and passed hors d’oeuvre.

Three different action stations featured delicious small plate entrées – seared wild salmon with roasted corn risotto served with a sage apple jus, edamame beans, roasted squash, bell peppers and peppery green salad.

Rack of lamb with a pomegranate molasse glaze and spiced date jus, fondant potatoes, celery jewels, and roasted squash.

Grilled beef brochette served with fingerling potato salad, seasonal vegetables, oven-dried tomatoes, and arugula dressed with aged balsamic and Manchego cheese shards.
